WG2 output: lab mapping

One of the main outputs from WG2 was an updateable map that gives an overview of European laboratories with expertise in FPB. The map can be found here.

WG 2 will identify and develop techniques for analysis of different food matrices for FBP, based on solutions used in- and outside the network.

Identify and develop techniques for analysis of different food matrices for FBP, based on solutions used in- and outside the network, with particular emphasis on reliability, efficiency, integration, harmonization and standardization, and to identify available techniques in and outside the network for diagnosis of infection with FBP in different regions in Europe, given the differences in available equipment, methods and occurrence of FBP. For FBP, current diagnostic methods have a great variety of sensitivity, specificity. Molecular diagnostic tools for some FBP differ for human diagnostics, veterinary diagnostics, and food analysis.  The first task is to determine the techniques available in these different settings by country; further activities will be to consider sensitivity, specificity, validation, standardization and transfer of techniques. The work on analytical methods of WG 2 will enable Europe-wide sharing of methodologies, and standardization of approaches, both for detection in food as in humans. This will also be achieved through Workshops (training programmes and technical courses) - and STSMs (further information about EURO-FPB activities can be found here). A sub-group within this WG will be in charge of writing guidelines for human diagnostics of FBP for clinical microbiology labs in collaboration with the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
