EURO-FBP
A European Network for Foodborne Parasites

Workshops

2nd Grant period May 2016-April 2017

Euro-FBP Meeting
Berlin, Germany
16-17th June 2016

"Towards a consensus on subtyping schemes for surveillance and outbreak investigations of Cryptosporidium”

This two-day meeting aims at reaching a consensus on current typing and subtyping
of Cryptosporidium, a FBP of considerable importance in Europe. To date,
and despite extensive research, a global consensus on how to apply multi-locus
subtyping in a standardised fashion is missing and has largely rendered interlaboratory
comparisons of results difficult. The Workshop will address the topic
from several points of view, including human and animal health perspective,
foodborne and waterborne transmission, and evolutionary biology. These
aspects will be mostly covered by experts from the COST action (Rachel M.
Chalmers, Simone M. Cacciò, Letitia Kortbeek, Karin Troell). An invited expert in
Cryptosporidium biology and genetics, Dr. Giovanni Widmer (Cummings School
of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health,
USA), will address the topic from an evolutionary standpoint. This will not be a
training session, and attending participants should have background knowledge
and experience on genotyping / sub-genotyping this parasite.
